This innovative text explains difficult concepts in a relevant, student-oriented manner. Chemistry is presented visually through multi-level images—macroscopic, molecular and symbolic representations—helping you see the connections among the formulas (symbolic), the world around you (macroscopic), and the atoms and molecules that make up the world (molecular). Among other revisions, the Second Edition offers a crisp new design, adds more challenging problems, and significantly revises coverage of electrochemistry. This is just the standalone book if you want the book/access kit order:

"From the primitive pine-torch to the paraffin candle, how wide an interval! between them how vast a contrast! The means adopted by man to illuminate his home at night, stamp at once his position in the scale of civilisation. The fluid bitumen of the far East, blazing in rude vessels of baked earth; the Etruscan lamp, exquisite in form, yet ill adapted to its office; the whale, seal, or bear fat, filling the hut of the Esquimaux or Lap with odour rather than light; the huge wax candle on the glittering altar, the range of gas lamps in our streets,--all have their stories to tell. All, if they could speak (and, after their own manner, they can), might warm our hearts in telling, how they have ministered to man''s comfort, love of home, toil, and devotion."

As the first modern physical chemistry textbook to cover quantum mechanics before thermodynamics and kinetics, this book provides a contemporary approach to the study of physical chemistry. By beginning with quantum chemistry, students will learn the fundamental principles upon which all modern physical chemistry is built. The text includes a special set of "MathChapters" to review and summarize the mathematical tools required to master the material Thermodynamics is simultaneously taught from a bulk and microscopic viewpoint that enables the student to understand how bulk properties of materials are related to the properties of individual constituent molecules. This new text includes a variety of modern research topics in physical chemistry as well as hundreds of worked problems and examples.

Published in June 1848, less than a year before her death, Anne Bront's second (and last) novel, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, is the somber account of the breakdown of a marriage in the face of alcoholism and infidelity. The novel enjoyed a modest success that led its publisher, the unscrupulous T.C. Newby, to issue a "Second Edition" less than two months later. The present edition, which completes the Clarendon Edition of the Novels of the Bronts, offers a text based on the collation of the first edition with the second. The introduction details the work's composition and early printing history, including its first publication in America; and the text is fully annotated. Appendices record the substantive variants in the first English and American editions, and discuss the author's belief in the doctrine of universal salvation.

A More Accessible Approach to Thermodynamics In this third edition, you'll find a modern approach to applied thermodynamics. The material is presented in sufficient detail to provide a solid understanding of the principles of thermodynamics and its classical applications. Also included are the applications of chemical engineering thermodynamics to issues such as the distribution of chemicals in the environment, safety, polymers, and solid-state-processing. To make thermodynamics more accessible, several helpful features are included. Important concepts are emphasized in marginal notes throughout each chapter. Illustrations have also been added to demonstrate the use of these concepts and to provide a better understanding of the material. Boxes are used to highlight equations so that students can easily identify the end results of analyses. You can also visit the text's web site to download additional problem sets, computer programs to solve thermodynamic and phase behavior problems, and Mathcad(r) worksheets used for problem solving.

The second edition of the book Surface Chemistry of Froth Flotation by Dr. S.R. Rao presents many significant advances of the 20 years since the publication of the first edition, including electrochemistry of sulfide flotation, use of chelating compounds in flotation, mechanism of activation and depression, inadvertent activation, fine particle flotation and several others of current interest to flotation engineers, researchers and graduate students. Dr. Rao has gathered recent published information and integrated it with established knowledge under various topics. The book also describes areas of ongoing research in the subject.

In this authoritative Very Short Introduction to the periodic table, Eric Scerri presents a modern and fresh exploration of this fundamental topic in the physical sciences, considering the deeper implications of the arrangements of the table to atomic physics and quantum mechanics. Scerri looks at the trends in properties of elements that led to the construction of the periodic table, and how the deeper meaning of its structure gradually became apparent with the development of atomic theory and quantum mechanics, so that physics arguably came to colonize an entirely different science, chemistry.

This full-color, modern physical chemistry reference offers compelling applications and arresting illustrations that capture readers' attention and demonstrate the dynamic nature of the subject. The authors focus on core topics of physical chemistry, presented within a modern framework of applications. Modern applications are drawn from biology, environmental science, and material science. Spectroscopy applications are introduced early in concert with theory; for example, IR and rotational spectroscopy are discussed immediately after the harmonic oscillator and the rigid rotar. Modern research is featured throughout, along with new developments in the field such as scanning tunneling microscopy, bandgap engineering, quantum wells, teleportation, and quantum computing.
