This is the only edition currently in print of Shostakovich's operatic masterpiece, a reprint of the 1935 edition of the opera, especially prepared by DSCH, the company begun by the composer's widow. This is a hardbound, deluxe publication, with the sung text in both Russian and English. 324 pages.

Shostakovich himself made the piano solo reduction of his third full-length story ballet, which was premiered in what was then Leningrad in 1935. The composer described the piece as "happy, light, entertaining." The simple socialist story reflects the time of composition. A group of ballet dancers from Moscow travels on tour to the rural Kuban region. At first there is tension between the native farmers and the urban artists, but they discover many commonalities, including a farmer/ballerina romance. This is the only edition available of the piece. Paperback. 232 pages.

These volumes are the first releases of an ambitious new series started in 1999 by DSCH, the exclusive publisher of the works of Dmitri Shostakovich. Each volume contains new engravings; articles regarding the history of the compositions; facsimile pages of Shostakovich's manuscripts, outlines, and rough drafts; as well as interpretations of the mauscripts. In total, 150 volumes are planned for publication.
