These posing guides were created to make available to both photographers and models an inexpensive guide to posing and are priced as low as the publisher will allow. They are not intended to be a definitive work on posing. Nor are they attempting to define the only way posing can be approached. All models are unique and bring their own style and personality to the image. The accomplished photographer recognizes this and tries to emphasize the individual characteristic that each model presents.
Photography is a visual medium. The photographer must learn to see what presents itself in the viewfinder. Although much can be explained in writing much more can be gleaned by presenting the work in a visual format. It is much easier to show a model or photographer what you are looking for than trying to communicate it by other means. That is why there is such a heavy emphasis on imagery in these books. I hope you enjoy them and that they are useful in your work. More than 65 color pictures in this work.

If there is, indeed, nothing lovelier than a tree, Connecticut-based artist Bryan Nash Gill shows us why. Creating large-scale relief prints from the cross sections of trees, the artist reveals the sublime power locked inside their arboreal rings. Gill creates patterns not only of great beauty but also year-by-year records of the life and times of fallen or damaged logs. He rescues the wood from the property surrounding his studio and neighboring land, extracts and prepares blocks of various species (including ash, maple, oak, spruce, and willow), then makes prints by carefully following and pressing the contours of rings and ridges until the intricate designs transfer from tree to paper. This volume reproduces 139 Japanese woodblock colour prints by 43 famous masters of ukiyo-e, the popular art of the 17th to the 19th century. The originals are in the Riccar Art Museum in Tokyo, the world's largest and most celebrated collection of such prints. On account of their rarity and value, 87 of them have been designated Japanese National Treasures or Major National Cultural Heritage Items. The introductory essay, "Ukiyo-e - Origins and History", by the Curator of the Riccar Art Museum, Mitsunobu Sato, familiarizes the reader with the history of this art form. This is followed by the chapter "Cherry - Wood - Blossom", in which Thomas Zacharias, Professor at the Munich Academy of Art examines the technique, content and style of Japanese prints and their influence on European art at the turn of the century. One of the more interesting aspects of artistic nude studies is one of motion and capturing that motion in a still frame - this volume contains images of a quite lovely young nude model in motion - little explanation is necessary as hopefully the images stand on their own. However, the viewer is advised to carefully examine the finer nuances of muscle movement and posture.
The author began photography and photo-journalism in early 1963 when he accepted an offer from his local newspaper to write about and photograph sports events at the Arizona high school where he was a junior.
After a stint in the service, he had an opportunity to study photography and printing techniques with Bernard Hoffman, a true gentleman and scholar, and one of the earliest staff photographers for Life Magazine. Since that time he had had thousands of photographs and hundreds of articles published by more than 60 national and international periodicals. He was also a contributing editor for one of them for more than ten years. Topics ran the gamut from professional sports, medicine, archeology, and photography to science.
