In the .NET Framework, data access to any database is currently possible through the following managed data providers: SQL Server .NET Data Provider (for SQL Server 7.0 or SQL Server 2000), OLE DB .NET Data Provider (uses native OLE DB through COM interop), ODBC .NET Data Provider (uses native ODBC drivers), and Microsoft .NET Data Provider for Oracle (a managed provider for retrieving XML from SQL 2000--SQLXML 2.0). If your database is Oracle, then you currently have three choices for managed providers. They are OLE DB .NET, ODBC .NET, and Microsoft.NET Data Provider for Oracle. In this article, Narayanan Bakthisaran provides step-by-step instructions to manipulate Oracle data using both the ODBC .NET Data Provider and the OLE DB .NET Data Provider.
