NeXTSTEP is the central software of the NeXT workstation. It combines object-oriented programming tools, interface customizing utilities, a multitasking Unix operating system, built-in networking, multimedia connections and Display Postscript for showing on the screen exactly what will be printed out on paper. It makes programming faster and smoother than on other systems platforms. It is so unique, that NeXT Computer, Inc., will be making the 3.0 Version of this software available for users working on other platforms, specifically the Intel 486 PC machines, thereby enormously broadening the potential usership for NeXTSTEP. The book by Garfinkel and Mahoney will be the first comprehensive work dealing with the 3.0 Version of the NeXTSTEP in the context of writing programming applications with it. Garfinkel, an experienced author and Senior Editor of NeXTWORLD magazine, has joined forces with an experienced computer scientist and NeXT User Program Director, Mahoney, to create this authoritative, "hands on" work for all NeXT users and developers desiring to program in this object-oriented environment.

The Complete Guide to the NeXTSTEP User Environment is a book/diskette combination describing the advanced, object-oriented NeXTSTEP User Environment for NeXT and Intel-based computers. It is intended for those who already own a computer running NeXTSTEP and want to quickly learn what it can do, and how to get the most out of it with the least effort. It's also for those who are considering the purchase of NeXTSTEP but want to learn more about how it works. This is not just a "getting started" manual, but a book that describes how to make NeXTSTEP work for you. It provides numerous tips and tricks, shortcuts and commentary, and is written to make you feel as if you are sitting next to a veteran who can guide you through the NeXTSTEP user environment and steer you away from common pitfalls. Inside you not only learn about the NeXTSTEP User Environment, but also about the many applications bundled with it such as Draw, Edit, PrintManager, FaxReader, Digital Librarian, and more! There's even descriptions of popular public domain and shareware applications and how to find hidden treasures buried within NeXTSTEP that most users overlook. Some of the more advanced topics discussed include: How to take advantage of networked resources.- How to use UNIX commands within NeXTSTEP.- How to recover from application and system crashes.- How to customize NeXTSTEP to meet your needs.- How to find related NeXTSTEP information. The enclosed 3 1/2'' 1.4 MB high-density NeXTSTEP diskette includes NeXTSTEP applications, fonts, sample sounds and images to quickly speed you on your way to understanding and making great use of the most elegant system software available today. An electronic version of the popular public domain document, "Incomplete Guide to the Internet" (over 200 pages!), is also included. The diskette is formatted for NeXTSTEP, and works with both NeXT and Intel-based computer systems.

A must for every sales professional, Next-Step Selling explains how to sell complex goods and services to today's savvy customer
- Provides a clear and realistic diagnostic tool for complex selling that may be applied to the majority of sales environments.
- Teaches the salesperson how to sell not only the product, but the organization and themselves.
- Shows how to differentiate a product from the multitude of competitors by tangible 'separation factors'.
Relevant to today's complex sales environment, where the customers are more knowledgeable, aware and demand the best value for their money, Next-Step Selling provides a clear, workable and realistic diagnostic tool that may be applied to the majority of sales environments and products, goods or services. In today's cost sensitive business environment, retaining and nurturing existing customer relationships is more effective than focusing energies on gaining new customers, so complex selling is more critical. John Barker teaches the salesperson how to sell, not only the product, but also the organization and themselves and illustrates how to differentiate a product from the multitude of competitors by intangible 'separation factors'. The book is divided into three key sections and provides a workable view of the 'Next-Step' selling technique. The first section offers a new approach to selling while the second section covers the nine key sales elements (planning, prospecting, relationship, needs, positioning, follow-up, barriers, closing and negotiation). The final section covers bringing the process to life with essential sales skills.
John Barker is a partner in DTS International, a corporate communications consultancy and is a high profile speaker, participating in seminars about communication and negotiation skills, conflict resolution, team dynamics, sales skills and customer relationships.

Semantica is the manual for a new software application that allows the user to explore the semantic structure of language in an engaging, interactive way. The program, which was produced as part of a National Science Foundation initiative for improving linguistics instruction, is designed to be used with Syntactica, a tool for studying natural language syntax. Semantica provides a simple graphical interface for creating semantic theories, viewing the truth conditions that those theories assign to phrase-markers created in Syntactica, and for testing those truth conditions in a pictorially represented world. Although designed for use in introductory semantics courses, Semantica has features that will appeal to professionals. For example, it can be used as a "derivation calculator" in following out complex semantic derivations involving many steps and operations.
