The small chunk of North America enclosed within the state boundaries of Connecticut and Rhode Island includes parts of at least six former continents, microcontinents, and volcanic island chains, each with its own geologic history. Roadside Geology of Connecticut and Rhode Island introduces readers to the sequence of mountain-building collisions that welded the pieces of land together and to the subsequent upwelling of magma that nearly broke them apart again. Twenty road
guides, complete with maps, photographs, and diagrams, locate
and interpret the rocks and landforms visible from the state s
highways and at nearby parks and historic sites. Readers will discover stretched pebbles at Purgatory Chasm, folded marble
at Kent Falls State Park, Eubrontes footprints at Dinosaur State Park, and glacial moraines protruding from the waters of Long Island and Block Island Sounds. -
For years Ken Weber has been educating visitors and natives to the historic and natural wonders of the Ocean State. The 40 walks and gentle hikes in this new guide reveal the best terrain the state has to offer, both urban and rural. This guide includes the cliffs of Block Island, the beaches of Ninigret and Napatree; the quiet woods and fields of the Northwestern Corner; the wildlife sanctuaries and islands of Narragansett Bay; and the mansions of Cliff Walk in Newport. The walks range from 1.5 to 9 miles in length, from gentle strolls to more challenging day hikes. Each chapter includes directions to the trailhead, a detailed map, a complete description of the route, and natural and historic highlights you'll see along the way.

Newport, Rhode Island-celebrated 'City by the Sea' and home to America's elite-has a deeply rooted history, both architectural and otherwise, that makes it a perennial destination, with more than 3.5 million visitors each year. The famous properties of the Preservation Society of Newport County, the annual Flower Show, the Jazz Festival, the Tennis Hall of Fame, and corporate retreats all bring a steady stream of tourists to Newport each year. Featuring 275 full-color photographs, this is the first book to reveal the privately owned mansions and gardens of Newport that are closed to the public and not part of the tours given by the Preservation Society. Never-before-published photos of these homes, which have been designed by distinguished architects and landscape designers, are stunning examples of Newport's 375-year old-world architectural heritage.

Tucked into a corner of New England, Rhode Island is one of the region’s best-kept secrets. Out-of-staters think of it as Providence, Newport, and little else. Photographer Richard Benjamin knows better. His Rhode Island is a four-part scenic tour of the state beginning and ending in the capital:
"Providence" focuses on the historic home of Roger Williams and Brown University, from the colonial-era First Baptist Church to the Rhode Island State House, which boasts the second largest unsupported dome in the world after that of St. Peter’s in Rome.
"Along the Coast" makes it clear why Rhode Island is known as the Ocean State. Benjamin moves from the Port of Providence through the East Bay area, to Little Compton, and over Newport to the mainland coast.
"Back Roads" is an eye-opener, with scenes that could as easily be found in Vermont or Maine—from the Hope Valley Pub in Hopkinton to a one-room schoolhouse in Exeter, from the Coventry home of Revolutionary War general Nathaniel Greene to a covered bridge (the state’s only), and on to the mill towns north of the capital.
"Renaissance" returns to Providence. Once described by the Wall Street Journal as "a smudge on the road from New York to Cape Cod," the capital has undergone an amazing revival since the early 1990s. Benjamin takes a gondola ride to view the most visible signs of the city’s rebirth—the Riverwalk, Waterplace Park, and the spectacular WaterFires, which have brought young and old back to Providence and all it has to offer.
The foreword by Phyllis Meras, formerly of the Providence Journal, places Benjamin’s images in historic context.

Between Long Island Sound and the elbow of Cape Cod lies a richly varied cruising ground. A Cruising Guide to Narragansett Bay and the South Coast of Massachusetts is the definitive cruising guide to these waters. Its coverage extends to the headwaters of Narragansett Bay and miles offshore to the solitude of Block Island and Nantucket.
Longtime area boaters Lynda and Patrick Childress and Tink Martin take you on a personal tour with all you need for a day, a weekend, or several weeks of cruising. They provide essential information on weather, tides, currents, and pilotage, as well as the availability of moorings and the closest place to pick up provisions. The unique harbor rating system shows at a glance what each anchorage offers in facilities, protection, beauty, and interest. Maps and charts help negotiate tricky channels or find that hidden marina.
When you've dropped anchor and are sitting back in the cockpit after a day's cruising, the guide continues to inform you, pointing out places to go for food and entertainment, where to find hiking trails, picnic and fishing spots, wildlife sanctuaries, museums, and more. In addition, the authors give cruisers the historical context in which to view the passing scenery, and they impart a deep affection for the region's unique character.
