The Blood of a Poet (1930) is a cinematic poem, a benchmark in the cinematographic work of Cocteau. It pointed the way to his Orphic cycle, which is repeatedly crossed by the rays of Orpheus and of Testament. This work contains a shot-by-shot breakdown of the film, incorporating the text by Jean Cocteau and additional descriptive features.

The term "pocket theater" is to be understood as little theater, texts that are easy to perform on stages where young talents can focus on dramatic aspects of their personalities. Published in 1955, these texts allow Cocteau's engaging personality to come to the fore: his verve, his humor, his ability to wink an eye and paint a portrait.
