End the Fed (Hardcover) by Ron Paul 2009 In the post-meltdown world, it is irresponsible, ineffective, and ultimately useless to have a serious economic debate without considering and challenging the role of the Federal Reserve. Most people think of the Fed as an indispensable institution without which the country's economy could not properly function. But in END THE FED, Ron Paul draws on American history, economics, and fascinating stories from his own long political life to argue that the Fed is both corrupt and unconstitutional. It is inflating currency today at nearly a Weimar or Zimbabwe level, a practice that threatens to put us into an inflationary depression where $100 bills are worthless. What most people don't realize is that the Fed -- created by the Morgans and Rockefellers at a private club off the coast of Georgia -- is actually working against their own personal interests. Congressman Paul's urgent appeal to all citizens and officials tells us where we went wrong and what we need to do fix America's economic policy for future generations.

This is the book the CIA does not want you to read. For the last sixty years, the CIA has maintained a formidable reputation in spite of its terrible record, never disclosing its blunders to the American public. It spun its own truth to the nation while reality lay buried in classified archives. Now, Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times reporter Tim Weiner offers a stunning indictment of the CIA, a deeply flawed organization that has never deserved America's confidence.
Legacy of Ashes is based on more than 50,000 documents, primarily from the archives of the CIA. Everything is on the record. There are no anonymous sources, no blind quotations. With shocking revelations that will make headlines, Tim Weiner gets at the truth and tells how the CIA's failures have profoundly jeopardized our national security.

In 1982, Ron Paul served on the U.S. Gold Commission to evaluate the role of gold in the monetary system. In fact, the Commission was his idea. It was carrying forth a promise made in the Republican platform. Ron couldn't pick the members, so from the beginning, the deck was stacked. The majority was dominated by monetarists, who saw gold as too scarce and paper as just fine. Ron Paul's team was ready, however, with this marvelous minority report. Rarely has a dissent on a government commission done so much good! The result was The Case for Gold, and it was the greatest result of the commission. It covers the history of gold in the United States, explains that its breakdown was caused by governments, and explains the merit of having sound money: prices reflect market realities, government stays in check, and the people retain their freedom. The scholarship and rigor impressed even the critics of the minority. Ron and Lewis Lehrman worked with a team of economists that included Murray Rothbard, so it is hardly suprising that such a book would result. It still holds up as an excellent blueprint for moving beyond paper money and into the age of sound money. In particular, Ron favors complete monetary freedom to use any commodity as money, to make contracts in any money, and an end to the monopolization and printing power of the Federal Reserve. There is a strong piece of history

With FLEECED, their June 2008 attack on Barack Obama, congressional corruption, liberal tax policies, teachers unions, and much more, political analysts Dick Morris and Eileen McGann scored their biggest bestseller ever-debuting at #2 on the New York Times bestseller list and riding high on the list for eight weeks and counting. Thanks to massive, continual exposure on The O-Reilly Factor, Hannity & Colmes, and the other Fox News programs-and the broad popularity of Dick-s syndicated column and exploding mailing list-FLEECED is on track to double the sales of their previous bestseller, OUTRAGE. In 2009, Morris and McGann will return with their biggest book yet. In proven fashion, they-ll take on a barrage of hot-button pocketbook issues of immediate interest to the American people-from oil prices, real estate, and the faltering state of the economy to the ongoing corruption in Washington. But the big opportunity here is to get Dick and Eileen-s first take on the new administration-and, whoever wins the 2008 election, there-s bound to be plenty to talk about. -If Barack Obama wins, conservative readers will be hopping mad. Expect a full accounting of Obama-s all-important first 100 days in office-from his surely liberal cabinet appointments, to his handling of federal spending and new taxes, to the truth about his left-leaning policies. - If John McCain wins, conservative rea

While the government claims to be a representative republic, somehow hot-button topics from gay marriage to the allocation of Florida's presidential electors always seem to be decided by unelected judges. What gives them the right to decide such issues? The judges say it's the Constitution. Author and law professor Kevin Gutzman shows that there is very little relationship between the Constitution ratified by the thirteen states more than two centuries ago and the "constitutional law" imposed upon us since then. Instead of the intended system of state-level decision makers and elected officials, judges have given us a centralized system in which bureaucrats and appointed officials make most of the important policies. The Constitution guarantees our rights and freedoms, but activist judges are threatening those very rights because of the Supreme Court's willingness to substitute its own opinions for the perfectly constitutional laws enacted by "we, the people" through our elected representatives.

The Great Experiment peels back the heated rhetoric over the federal health care law and provides a serious examination of how the relationship between states and the federal government impacts health care policy decisions. The book is about much more than examining a single state experiment, or the immediate questions that may arise during a presidential campaign. Make no mistake about it: The Great Experiment lays out a market-oriented blueprint for the next decade - and seeks to do it with the wisdom and balance that come from observing and analyzing a variety of state and federal policy experiences.

Helps students understand better the complex process of how decisions are made. The United States holds a paradoxical role in the world: although the super power in global politics, the United States is threatened by the same factors that facilitated its primacy. A sense of national exceptionalism, the diffusion of governmental powers, and the openness of civil society helped to create its status, but have also restricted the U.S. government's freedom of action and threaten it's sovereignty. Hook looks closely at the institutions of power - both inside and outside of government - that define the roles of public and private actors. He concludes that these institutions (e.g., the presidency, Congress, the State Department, the media, interest groups, and inter-governmental organizations such as the U.N., World Bank, and NATO) become more complex as the scope of U.S. foreign policy broadens. As the lines between domestic and foreign-policy concerns are increasingly blurred, as the number and magnitude of problems crossing national borders increases, and as more individuals and groups become stake-holders and participants in the policy process, U.S. foreign policymaking becomes increasingly pluralistic.

Al Franken, one of our "savviest satirists" (People), has been studying the rhetoric of the Right. He has listened to their cries of "slander," "bias," and even "treason." He has examined the Bush administration's policies of squandering our surplus, ravaging the environment, and alienating the rest of the world. He's even watched Fox News. A lot. And, in this fair and balanced report, Al bravely and candidly exposes them all for what they are: liars. Lying, lying liars. Al destroys the liberal media bias myth by doing what his targets seem incapable of: getting his facts straight. Using the Right's own words against them, he takes on the pundits, the politicians, and the issues, in the most talked about book of the year.
